KEMP TOWN SOCIETY
SOCIAL EVENTS PLANNED FOR 2009

To match the current credit crunch trend of offering the best value for money KTS have this year planned some free events for the members together with more locally based excursions. Since our membership and social events go towards our conservation and preservation work should you wish to bring a friend on any of the trips please add an extra £10 added to the cost of their ticket which will automatically enrol them as a Kemp Town Society member until the end of next January.

1) FRIDAY 20 MARCH – was to celebrate the first day of spring with a KTS cliff health walk Free of charge  

2) SATURDAY 18 APRIL 10.30 am to noon Annual General Meeting at the Brighton Steiner School.

3) TUESDAY 21 APRIL- we enjoyed a beautifully sunny day visiting Uppark – a most interesting house with gardens inspired by designer Humphry Repton.  We then continued to Chichester for a delicious meal with wine in the Brasserie in the Park followed buy the evening performance of ‘HAY FEVER’

4) WEDNESDAY 13 MAY was another free of charge event offering the opportunity to members not living on the Estate to walk around the private gardens of the Kemp Town Estate.

5) TUESDAY 30 JUNE The coach leaves at 10.30 am for Sarah Raven’s Garden at Perch Hill Farm for a most interesting guided tour, followed by a private lunch of two courses with wine and coffee. Visit their website at www.perchhill.co.uk.  We then go to Bateman’s the Jacobean house home of Rudyard Kipling, remaining just as he left it, reflecting the author’s exotic oriental taste. The delightful gardens run down to the River Dudwell and a working watermill.  Kipling’s 1928 Phantom 1 Rolls-Royce is also on show.     Home about 6 pm.     £50 or £44 for National Trust members.

6) SUNDAY 12 JULY from 12.30 pm: THE KEMP TOWN SOCIETY ANNUAL GARDEN PARTY
This annual party is held in the Kemp Town Enclosures North Garden which is to the north of Eastern Road.  Free entrance to members is by the most northerly gate.  A welcoming glass of wine is offered and further wine is available at the bar for a donation.   Once again we ask that you please bring a plate of finger food to add to the party spirit.  We will be entertained by the Vintage Hot Five Jazz Band and this year there will be a variety of stalls available to help raise funds for KTS and its conservation aims.  Do come along whatever the weather because the party always goes on.  Should it rain this year there will be a prize for the most amazing rain garment.

7) TUESDAY 29 SEPTEMBER Coach leaves at 1.30 pm for St Mary’s House and Gardens, an enchanting 15th century timber-framed house, in the picturesque award-winning downland village of Bramber, West Sussex ... a place of fascination and mystery.  Five acres of beautiful gardens with a prehistoric Ginkgo Biloba 'living fossil' tree, amusing animal topiary, and Victorian 'Secret' Garden.   We continue to Chichester for a three course meal with wine in the Brasserie in the Park at 6 pm before the evening performance of  Terence Rattigan’s ‘SEPARATE TABLES’ appearances can be deceiving and anything but polite.
