THE KEMP TOWN ENCLOSURES RAILINGS PROJECT

Work has started again on the plinth that is to support the railings facing the sea.  The work stopped due to the financial failure of the previous contractors.  Kemp Town Society continues to assist in raising funds for the actual railings through charitable bodies, thus reinstating the position of Thomas Kemp’s original railings.  KTS members agreed this course of action at the 2014 AGM.  We will continue to advise progress both with the work and our fund raising attempts.

LATEST NEWS ON THE DEVELOPMENT IN BRIGHTON MARINA

Thank you to those of you who contributed to the Judicial Review application by Robert Powell in June which, unfortunately, was unsuccessful.  This is a very complex case in a specialist field and it is considered by the lawyers for the claimant, Robert Powell of Marine Gate, and those of his supporters who were present, that the Judge may not fully have grasped all the issues.  She had not visited the site.  In particular we are very confident that her interpretation of s.40 of the Brighton Marina Act does not reflect its meaning or intention.

On the strong advice of his lawyers Robert Powell has lodged Notice of Appeal but it is not yet known whether he will be given leave to appeal.  The Appeal will cost more money and, therefore, we may be launching a further appeal for funds to help Robert to continue the action and if so we will be asking you all to consider donating further funds.
